Freeway Shooter Reaches Settlement With County

The man once accused in the Phoenix freeway shootings will receive an undisclosed amount of money in a settlement with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

Leslie Merritt, Jr. spent seven months in jail after being arrested in September, 2015 in connection to the string of shootings on Valley freeways over a two-month period.  Charges were later dropped.

The settlement only involves County Attorney Bill Montgomery's office, and not separate lawsuits against the county and state, including the Arizona Department of Public Safety.  Those suits claiming false arrest and imprisonment among other allegations remain open.
