Scottsdale Man Arrested For Hitting, Killing Cop

A man has been arrested for hitting and killing a Salt River Police Officer on the 101 in Scottsdale. 

40-year old Jerry Sanstead is facing manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and endangerment charges.  DPS says Sanstead was looking down at his phone and texting when he crossed two lanes of traffic before hitting Officer Clayton Townsend.  

Townsend was standing next to a car he had pulled over near the McDowell exit.  The Officer leaves behind a wife and ten-month old baby.  He was a five-year Veteran of the Salt River Police Department.
