Education Advocates Want More Funding

Public education advocates are calling on Governor Doug Ducey and the new state legislature to take action on school funding.

President of the Arizona Education Association, Joe Thomas, said 900 Arizona teachers left their jobs in just the first half of this school year.  He added lawmakers around the state promised more education funding during their campaigns, and now is the time to deliver.

Education advocates are calling on lawmakers to provide an additional 1-billion in education funding annually.  Thomas said if lawmakers do not add additional funding for education, educators will bring back the Invest in Ed initiative and put the question in front of voters.

The  Arizona Legislature opened Monday after Governor Doug Ducey delivered his State of the State Address at the Capitol.
