AZ Attorney General Warns Of Social Security Scam

State Attorney General Mark Brnovich is warning Arizona residents about con artists pretending to be from the Social Security Administration.  He says in one version of the scam, a caller claims your Social Security number has been linked to illegal activity and has been blocked.  Then explains you need to pay to have a new one issued.  In another, crooks try to obtain personal information by claiming they are enrolling you in a Medicare prescription program, or saying Social Security computers are down.

Brnovich said the scammers may even spoof the number of the Social Security Administration on your caller ID.  He added never give out personal info, even if the caller sounds convincing.
