MCSO: Drug And Sex Offenders Were On Posse

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is blaming poor record-keeping for allowing what it calls "unqualified individuals" to serve as volunteer posse members. It says an audit revealed that some people were allowed to continue participating in posse activities even though they were convicted domestic violence, drug or sex offenders.

Sheriff Paul Penzone says those people have since been removed from the posse, and in the future, all posse members will have to pass a background check.
