Grand Canyon Celebrates 100 Years Of National Park Designation

Tuesday is the 100th anniversary of the Grand Canyon becoming a national park.

President Teddy Roosevelt, who led conservation efforts at the canyon, had proclaimed it a national monument in 1908, but it did not become a national park until eleven years later. Since then, more than 200 million people have visited.

Although the official anniversary is February 26, the park is celebrating the centennial all year long.
