A first-grade teacher at Bartlett Elementary in Conroe, Texas, has lost her job after prohibiting students from using the restroom, leading to several children urinating on themselves. The incident occurred on Wednesday (December 4) when the teacher, identified as Ashley Barrera, allegedly revoked restroom privileges as a punishment for losing a "restroom badge" in the hallway. This decision resulted in emotional distress for the students, with some crying and pleading to use the bathroom.
The teacher sent a message to parents apologizing for the incident and promising new badges for the students. However, the situation prompted an investigation by the Conroe Independent School District. The district confirmed that Barrera is no longer employed following a comprehensive investigation.
Parents expressed their outrage, with Amber Johnson, a parent at the school, telling KHOU, "These kids were traumatized and humiliated." Another parent, Ashley Chancey, shared that her son was forced to work in an "unhygienic and unhealthy environment."
The school district emphasized that the incident does not reflect the quality of education provided by its educators. They assured parents of their commitment to fostering a respectful and caring environment for all students. The district has also provided a substitute teacher to take over the class while the investigation was underway.
