President Joe Biden took office promising to be the president for all Americans. Until today.
Biden isn't happy Texas Governor Greg Abbott has decided to rescind several of his emergency orders and allow the state to reopen. Abbott is also rescinding the state-wide mask mandate.
The President said, 'I think it's a big mistake. Look, I hope everybody's realized by now, these masks make a difference. We are on the cusp of being able to fundamentally change the nature of this disease because of the way in which we're able to get vaccines in people's arms.' Biden continued, 'the last thing -- the last thing we need is Neanderthal thinking that in the meantime, everything's fine, take off your mask, forget it. It still matters.'
Notice, he's trying to lead by example wearing a mask after receiving both doses of his COVID vaccine.
There's a simple way around this.
A real leader would appeal to people in Texas to continue wearing masks instead of castigating freedom. Yes, this is a freedom issue in several different areas.
The freedom of the individual to choose. To choose to wear a mask and to choose to patronize an establishment that doesn't have a mask mandate. The President and several other politicians don't want people to have the right to choose.
Ultimately, Texas' Governor is deciding what's best for his state. That's a Governor's job. Not President Biden's. Abbott's move doesn't make it illegal to wear a mask nor does it make it illegal for a business to require masks in their establishment.
Calm down Texas. Calm down Twitter. Calm down America. 'Neanderthal thinking,' is limiting freedom and attempting to control what a state does. Clearly, Biden doesn't trust people and therefore doesn't trust freedom.
