Let's take defund the police one step further and defund prisons. That's what Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez now wants.
"I want to abolish our carceral system that's designed to trap Black and Brown men," said at a campaign event for a Democratic socialist candidate in Cleveland, Ohio.
Catch that? AOC wants to Abolish the carceral system.
She says this as murders are up across the country. Not only that but people are brazenly walking into stores in San Francisco and stealing everything they can get their hands on. They are able to do this because the justice system isn't charging anyone for these types of crimes.
San Fran has made changes to the police department also known as defunding. The city has also seen a number of police officers resigning and retiring. Officers take time to replace.
Then, in San Fran, the liberal District Attorney isn't interested in charging criminals who steal things from stores.
In Cleveland, AOC added, 'I want justice. I want peace, and I want prosperity. That’s what I want.'
ABC 7 reached out to Walgreens, which has seen a massive increase in thefts, about the matter.
Walgreens emailed us to say the company has told members of the Board of Supervisors that theft in their San Francisco stores is four times the average of their stores across the country. They also spend 35 times more on security guards in San Francisco.
How much worse will it get if AOC gets what she wants?
