The memo has gone out: Black is the new red carpet. Time for the Hollywood elite to grab one of their multiple black gowns and wear it in style to awards shows. Uhhhh… I mean protests!
Sorting through their racks of Chanel, Versace, Armani, and Dior to find just the right symbol of their angst takes time for their stylists, but as social justice warriors, committed to taking on their rich and powerful male oppressors, (read lovers, co-stars, producers and directors) nothing is too much (or too sexy) for the cause. They go out looking like garden tools (hoes) but then expecting the Harvey Weinstein’s of the world to pretend that they don’t want to feel the fruit.
It is being done in the name of Mira Sorvino, Rose McGowan, and Asia Argento, don’t-cha-know but for some reason these women were not invited to the Golden Globes!?! To be sure, despite the snub, some of them will allow themselves to be trotted out on stage at the Oscars or at one of the other many self-celebratory offerings by Hollywood’s elites.
When they do appear, it will be in a beautifully choreographed scolding of middle-class, Christian, conservative values and they will blame those of us who have virtually nothing to do with the Hollywood machine. Somehow “we the people” will be blamed for their lecherous behavior.
This is what Hollywood has done to the protest: Glamorized it, stylized it, and turned it into pablum. Why not protest by just staying home? But then no one would see that sexy black dress.
Get ready for more Oprah style moralizing folks, because Hollywood and the left are in mourning and there are at least 3 more years of Trump (possibly 7) in office.
Make no mistake, Hollywood’s disdain is all about the fact that you elected a president that they didn’t like. They put everything they had into Weinstein’s pick, Hillary Clinton, and we the people rejected their political assault. #metoo
